Slowmode

Set a per-user message cooldown on any text channel directly from the Moderation panel. Useful for cooling heated discussions, throttling spam, or pacing announcement threads.

Open Moderation Panel

What is this?

A wrapper around Discord's native per-user message cooldown on a channel. Pick a channel and a duration from 0 seconds (off) up to 6 hours, click apply, and members hit a send delay between posts. Moderators with Manage Messages bypass it automatically.

Why you might want it

For the channel where five people all need to talk at once after a major event and nobody can finish a thought, and the contentious debate that's outpacing your mods' ability to read it. A 10-second slowmode is enough to make the conversation readable without stopping it. Lift it when things calm down.

Setup time: under a minuteDifficulty: Easy. Most users get through it first try.

What Slowmode Does

Slowmode limits how often a member can post in a channel. When enabled, Discord enforces a per-user cooldown between messages. Moderators and members with Manage Messages permission are exempt.

Arkanis wraps Discord's native slowmode feature so you can set it from the dashboard or the Moderation panel without needing channel settings access.

Set Slowmode

1

Open the Moderation Panel

From the dashboard sidebar, click Moderation Panel. You can also use /moderation panel directly in Discord.

2

Choose Set Slowmode

Find the Set Slowmode action card. On Discord this appears as a button inside the moderation panel message.

3

Pick a channel and duration

Select the channel and the cooldown. Valid values range from 0 seconds (off) to 6 hours (21,600 seconds).

  • 0s — slowmode disabled
  • 5s–30s — light throttle, stops spam without breaking conversation
  • 1m–5m — used during contentious debates or high-traffic events
  • 10m+ — announcement-style channels where members should pause between posts
  • 6h — maximum; Discord rejects anything higher
4

Apply

The change is applied immediately. Members see the cooldown as a send delay the next time they try to post.

When to Use It

  • Heated discussions — a short 10–30s cooldown slows a flame war without silencing anyone.
  • Spam waves — pair with AutoMod rules; slowmode is a blunt instrument that buys time while a rule is deployed.
  • Announcement channels — set a long cooldown (10m+) so follow-ups and reactions don't bury the main post.
  • Event or launch channels — throttle chatter so everyone can read the room.

Remove Slowmode

To turn it off, open the action again and set the duration to 0. No cooldown, no lingering settings.

Permissions & Audit Log

Setting slowmode requires the Manage Channels permission. Every change is written to the Arkanis audit log with the actor, channel, and new duration so you can review who set what and when.

Note
Slowmode is a free feature — no Pro subscription required. Discord's 6-hour maximum applies regardless of tier.
