The 30-second answer

What is a Pterodactyl Discord bot?

Pterodactyl is an open-source game-server management panel widely used by hosting providers and self-hosters. A Pterodactyl Discord bot connects to your panel and lets staff manage servers from Discord: power on, off, restart, send console commands, run bulk actions, and check status.

Arkanis covers that surface and adds capability-gated permissions, an audit trail with reason text and actor identity, encrypted credential storage, and identity-aware player context. Pelican is supported as a sibling variant of Pterodactyl with the same workflow.

What Arkanis does as a Pterodactyl Discord bot.

Power, console, files, and bulk actions, with capability gating and an audit trail attached.

Power on, off, restart from Discord

Send power commands to one server or to many servers in bulk. Every action is audit-logged with actor identity and reason. Capability gating means you can give a junior moderator restart-only access without unlocking shutdown.

Console commands from Discord

Send raw console commands to a Pterodactyl-managed server. Output streams back to the requesting staff member. Audited like every other action.

Pterodactyl Panel in the dashboard

Browse every managed server, see live status, dispatch actions, and review history. Discord and dashboard share the same capability checks and the same audit log, so context follows the moderator.

Bulk actions across servers

Restart every server, send the same console command, run a maintenance script. Confirmation gates protect destructive bulk operations.

Managed server limits with discovery

Pro guilds manage three servers (or five if you have the founding-bonus tier). Servers discovered beyond your managed limit remain visible in the dashboard as "Discovered from panel · Not managed by Arkanis" so you keep visibility without paying for extra capacity.

Pelican supported as a variant

When you add a connection, you pick Pterodactyl or Pelican. Same data shape, same workflow, same audit. py-dactyl drives both with a base-URL swap.

Identity-aware player context

If you also run an RCON-capable game on the same server, player identity links across surfaces. The case channel for a banned player can show their in-game name, the Pterodactyl server they were last on, and the audit trail of strikes.

Capability-gated panel access

panel_pterodactyl gates the panel. ptero_view, ptero_control, ptero_files, ptero_connection each gate a narrower surface. Junior staff get the read surface; senior staff get control; admins get files and connection rotation.

What separates Arkanis from a typical Pterodactyl bot.

Four things that matter for serious game-server operators.

01

Hosting credentials never leave the bot

Connection credentials are encrypted at rest and never surface in dashboard URLs, audit logs, or any user-facing string. Staff perform Pterodactyl actions without seeing the credential.

02

Capability gating goes deep on Pterodactyl

Pterodactyl access is not one all-or-nothing permission. ptero_view, ptero_control, ptero_files, ptero_connection each gate a specific surface. Junior staff get the read surface; senior staff get power and console; admins get files and credential rotation.

03

Pelican is a first-class variant

Not an afterthought or a fork-friendly hack. Pelican and Pterodactyl share the same connection table, the same UI, the same workflow. Pick one at connection time and the rest is identical.

04

Identity links across surfaces

Pterodactyl panel actions, RCON actions on the same server, and the Discord moderation history live in the same data plane. A banned player shows their in-game name, server, and strike history without staff stitching it together.

Pricing

Pterodactyl integration is a Pro feature.

Pro is £7.99 per month or £79.99 per year. Three managed servers by default; founding-bonus Pro guilds get five. Free plan covers everything that is not game-server operations.

Common questions

What is a Pterodactyl Discord bot?+

Pterodactyl is an open-source game-server management panel. A Pterodactyl Discord bot connects to your Pterodactyl panel and lets staff manage servers from Discord: power on, off, restart, send console commands, run bulk actions, and check status. Arkanis covers this surface and adds capability-gated permissions, an audit trail with reason and actor identity, and identity-aware player context.

Does Arkanis support Pelican?+

Yes. Pelican is supported as a sibling variant of Pterodactyl using the same connection shape. When you add a connection, pick Pterodactyl or Pelican; the rest of the workflow is identical. py-dactyl drives both with a base-URL swap.

How many servers can I manage?+

The Pro plan allows three managed servers by default, with a founding-bonus tier of five for early Pro guilds. Discovered servers beyond your managed limit stay visible in the dashboard with a "Discovered from panel · Not managed by Arkanis" state, so the panel inventory is never hidden.

Do my Pterodactyl credentials leave my server?+

No. Connection credentials are encrypted at rest with Fernet symmetric encryption and key rotation; they never appear in dashboard URLs, audit logs, or any user-facing surface. Staff can use Pterodactyl actions without ever seeing the credential.

Can I use Arkanis without Pterodactyl?+

Yes. Pterodactyl integration is invisible if you do not connect a panel. The core moderation, cases, identity, AutoMod, and audit features have nothing to do with game servers.

Is the Pterodactyl integration free or Pro?+

Pro. The Pterodactyl panel connection, the Pterodactyl Panel in the dashboard, the bulk actions, and the audit-logged console access are all Pro features. The free plan covers everything that is not game-server operations.

Try it on your own panel.

Sign in with Discord, connect a Pterodactyl or Pelican panel, and Arkanis is managing servers in minutes.
